My Car at idle is above 1000 rpms and when in Neutral or Park its above that at about 1200 rpms- What could cause that and is it normal?
its not that uncommon. im assuming you have a auto. my cav is a 5-speed and idle around 900-1100. 5-speeds tend to idle higher but it isnt uncommon to see a auto idle that high. i know there was a post about this a while ago and a few people were curious about theirs idling that high and the majority said it was fine
My 2.4 (model year 2000) has the automatic (4 spd with lockup= 5 speed in my book) and it idles at 600 to 650 rpm.
I had this same problem and took it to the dealer to have it checked out. They told me that it was normal, and that the computer even says that 1,000 RPM idle is normal for the car.

Gotta be something wrong there. Manual trannys in neutral want to idle +/- 900rpm, and Autos +/- 750rpm. High idle could mean overly lean, or there's an air leak somewhere. have someone with a scanner check out your engine operations. I typically charge a small sub an' a soda for that, if we find anything. Granted, it ain't a factory 'puter, but usually tells me enough, and I won't rape yer wallet!
My 96 sunfire (2.4) idles @ 800. Could it be a vacuum leak? Good luck.
I made a mistake- When i put it into N I get a Idle of 1500 RPMS- I can't see that being normal- Also when i go from Neutral to Drive it Jumps- Could my TPS be off?
check for vac leaks, get a can of carb cleaner or ether, and spray around vac lines and intake and such places
