spark plug not in the head all the way

Okay so like 1 1/2 years ago i had changed out my plugs(me and my friend) and the 4th plug did not want to go in all the way. like as soon as you would start tightening the plug it got real tight so we both tried a couple times and the same results. so we left it like that. the car seamed like it ran fine. i just got bad gas mileage. dont know why yet..

anyways so i got my head off to change the head gasket. i didnt take the plugs out so i can see how far that plug went in. well the hole that is tapped on the head you can see like 3 threads still and on all the other ones you cant see any.

so should i re-tap that hole now. ive never tapped a hole before. i dont want to mess it up and have to buy a new head. is tapping a hole easy or what.

also i got my head off and theres already a little rust starting on the cylinders on the block what should i do. i only had water in my radiator cause i had a leak and was trying to fix it so i just kept water in there til i fixed the leak. no reason to waste that anti-freeze when its so expensive. but it got to hot and blew the gasket. i think cause there was water in my oil. i looked at the head and block could not see any cracks or anything. so i hope that it was just the gasket.

also i have a 99 2200 auto

thank you,
nick

What you'll need to do is called "chasing threads" in

order to clear the carbon build up. To save the cost

of buying a tap which will be around $7 - $8, why don't

you try a "bronze bristle brush" used for cleaning deposits

in shotgun barrels.

To clean the top of the deck a large Nicholson metal

file, lightly raked across the surface of the block, is

a commonly used tool.
