Vent Plate

Has anyone else here had it where they couldnt change which vents they wanted to use? correct me if im wrong, but there is a plate attached to a cable attached to your vent selector knob, and i believe that plate got stuck inside my vents, there is a lot of pressure when i try to turn the selector knob and i can only use the vents that blow straight in front of me on the dash, i cant use my defrost and that is really starting to suck.

and like i said, there is a lot of pressure when i try to turn the knob, if it does turn, it just goes back to where it was, so i cant really move it. How hard is it to take apart the dash in an 04 cav?

95-02 use a vacuum system for the vent selection, and a cable for the temperature.... 03-05 use two cables instead....

If the cheap ass plastic gears in the assembly get messed up... then you have the problem you described...

taking apart the dash isn't too hard... check www.teamforwardmotion.com for instructions...

I already started taking it apart once, and the tabs that hold the dash to the pass air bag didnt want to budge, so i put it back together until i have more time to really mess with it. are the gears your talking about on the plate? cuz i can force the knob, but it just turns back to where it was and it is starting to get to the time of the year for defrost again.

its not too hard to get at the hvac.
pull off both covers on the end of the dash (where the fuse panel is)
remove the bolts it 1 or 2 in each end
open the glove box theres 3 bolts along the top
remove the top defrost vent remove the 2 bolts
lift up the dash pad there is clips that hold it to the gauge trim
there are 3 bolts that go along the gauge trim one at the drivers side one in the middle and one where it curves down around the top
remove all 3 they are a pain in the a**
then pull the gauge trim by pulling on it pull the bottom first to release the clips
remove the HVAC unit fix/ replace
reverse these steps to reassamble
YOUR DONE
all of the bolts are 6 or 8 millimeters

if you have any questions let me know

Yeah, but the next trip i take is going to be in my blazer, because on our way back from cali, a deer walked out in front of me and i didnt have any room in the car to bring him home. I was able to drive the car the rest of the way home too, just didnt have any ac cuz he put a couple holes in my condensor.
