A/C question

I posted this question in the sticky up top, but wasn't getting any answer so just figured I'd toss it out here...

Alrighty, just read through this, and didn't see anything related to what might be happening with mine.

Just after I got the car (03 Sunfire) I turned on the air conditioning and the light went on and everything is going well. Now though, the light won't go off if I have the control on circulating or defrost, even if I'm using hot air on the cold mornings. Pushing the button for the air conditioning doesn't seem to do anything, doesn't turn the light off anyway. Plus last week I went for a 4 hour drive, and than was stopped for a few hours, and than drove the 4 hours again. But towards the end of it, my rpm's weren't dropping when I pressed the clutch pedal down, and it felt "off." Couldn't figure out what might be happening, so turned the heater off to take a listen and it all seemed to clear right up. Since noticing that though I've noticed that when I start the car up, and than turn the heater on the lights dim a little and the rpm drops a touch.

Any ideas?

I'm not a big fan of a/c anyway would it be too big a deal just to have it removed?

recirculating or defrost both turn on the AC light. That's normal. The lights dimming a tad and the revs dipping slightly are also normal because AC puts more strain on the engine. If you ever redo your exhaust, you'll notice the exhaust gets louder at idle when you turn on your air. That's because of the additional stress on the engine.

Basically, nothing is wrong with your car. Now if the light stays on when you have it on other modes, and does not go off when you push the AC button, THEN you have a problem.

as far as removing the AC, it's not a big deal, you just need the AC delete pully, and I don't know if that's the same part number as the delete pully for the 2200...

Personally if it were me, I'd just leave it alone and not run the AC. when the AC is off, it does not rob any power form the car, and you still have it if someone is in you car and wants it on

Ok, so if it's on the defrost and the heat's on, the ac light will still be on? Should pressing the ac button turn that light off while it's on heat? Or is it always on in that setting?
From what I read, than it should be alright... especially depending on these answers. I suppose it would be less trouble to just leave it in than. Thank you both for the speedy replies.

While I'm asking though, any idea on the other questions about how it was driving (rpm's etc.)?

We have a 22lb flywheel, so it takes a few seconds for the RPM's to drop, because that's ALOT of rotating mass that needs to slow down. as far as an "off" feeling, that's not really much to go on....

as I said earlier, the light dimming, and a small dip in RPM's in normal when you turn on the AC system.

Any yes, when it's in defrost mode, the AC light will be on, even if you have turned all the way to heat.

Hey thanks a lot for the answers, really appreciate it. Regarding the flywheel though, normal driving and whatnot, the rpm drop right back down when I press the clutch pedal in. It was only after a long drive that it started sticking high for a while before even dropping at all. Plus when I came to a stop it didn't drop at all, and if I tapped the gas at all the rpms stayed high as well. This only seemed to be fixed, when I turned the heater off.
Just want to make sure there's nothing I should be worried about.
