antifreeze smell no signs of leaks

the car has a smell of antifreeze when the heat is on. we don't know if the heater core has been replaced does anyone have an idea on what to look for or look at. the car is a 89 z24

At that age, with conventional coolant and without normal flushing, it could very well be your heater core. Good idea to knock it out now while it's not too cold just yet.

If your smelling it in the car, doesn't mean to much. If coolant was leaking and giving off fumes, more that likely the vapour will vent into the cowl then drawn in by the heater fan motor. When heater cores usually go, they leave steam on the inside of the windshield, you would prob also have a sweet bitter tast in your mouth when in the car. If you want to find the leak, get a pressure test done on the coolant system. Just about every garage that do coolant flushes will have one. My local Wal-Mart even has one...it shouldn't cost much to do a test, thats even if they charge you
