I have a 98 sunfire 2200 and the button that you press to change from odometer to trip dosen't work any more. It is stuck on the odometer can this button be repaired and how hard is it. Dose anyone have a pic of what the cluster looks or what the button looks like
Thanks!

Do I have to replace the whole cluster or can just the switch be replaced?

does nayone know if there is a trip odometer on ALL the sunfires? I have a '99, 2.2L sunfire, it has the button to change between the odometer, and the trip odometer, but its never worked, i always just assumed that the trip odometer was an extra option that wasn't install on the car, but they just used the same cluster for simplicity's sake....hmm...now its got my thinking...very strange.
That cop took the whole thing way out of context. I mean, I was only going 145 Km/h in that
80 km/h zone because I was drunk and I wanted to get off the roads.
mine doesn't work anymore either, i assume something is screwed up with the cluster, just not worth the hassle of replacing it imo, next time i have it apart im gonna have a look at the pcb and see if i can figure out the problem
i do not know personally but chances are it's one of two things...
one is called a
Series TL59 Tact Switch
they crap out all the time (they have a VERY small (1/64 of an inch) click dome inside them and they get all messed up. if this is the type of switch that it is - just sacrifice an old cd player or stereo they use em' - unsolder the old one and pop in a new one
the other is a silicone dome with a litlle black conductive dot in the middle of it - commonly used in television remote controls
should this be the type - remove the offending button and CAREFULLY remove the silicone "dome"
placing your finger in the dome and turning it inside out, rub the little black dot on a piece of paper - just a bit, you looking to remove dirt not the conductive bead.
the other "meshed contact on the circutboard" - clean it up with a eraser
Thanks I work on audio gear and we have thousands of those switches but the big question is how do I get the cluster out and how hard is it.
