I just hit 50k miles on my 2002 ecotec alero and figured I should change the spark plugs. I know they are meant to go 100k on the platinums, but I have always been cautious. I picked up some AC Delco platinum replacements from the dealer and swapped them out today. I was shocked to see how bad the old plugs were. Sorry about the nasty camera phone picure but you get the idea. Change your plugs! My car runs much better now.
Thanks for the heads up bro ..aka... A J
Did mine at 28,000 and the little bump on the ground electrode was completely gone,
the center electrode was worn down and rounded off instead of haveing the little point.
I don't care what G.M. says I'm never leting mine go past 25,000 miles again.

Bah ... there is no little point on the Delco Platinums

Um have you ever seen them when new?

It was about 40 bucks after tax for all four. You can get them cheaper but there arent many dealers around and I was lazy. The ecotec has no spark plug wires. It is actually a pretty simple change. Disconnect the battery, remove the screws holding the ignition coil on and slide it out of the way, use a spark plug socket and extension and pop them out and put the new ones in, reconnect everything and you are done. You can get some beryllium copper plug springs from rksport to replace the cheapo ones if you want to.

I've always stuck with the factory type plugs. You figure if they designed and built the car then who is gonna know more about it then they do? True now if your boosted its another story but for N/A I'd say stick to factory you realy don't need more besides our
ignition system can only give so much so swapping plugs is kinda moot.

They dont have wires. I havent looked into it very much, but all I know is that they eliminated wires.

They do last 100K miles. Our chevy lumina (van) had just about 100K miles when we sold it.
Just had to change fuel regulator, fuel pump, regular filters, and the occasional transmission. Original spark plugs, 3rd trans.
