Throttle Cable Removal
Thursday, September 29, 2005 8:48 PM
I need to know how to remove the throttle cable, namely how to get it through the firewall. My throttle cable broke today and I need to replace it, but I have no clue how to get the son of a beach off...

From which end? The TB or the accelerator?

TB should be pretty obvious.. rotate the throttle plate to relieve the slack on the cable, then it slips out of the plastic wheel and fitting (like a bike brake cable.. well.. older ones.. early 90's?).

On the accelerator linkage.. there's a plastic sleeve that sort of stays in the metal end of the arm... pull it back towards you and it should just pop out, then the cable fits thru a slot in the top of the metal arm.

Thanks John, but I know how to get those parts off. The part that I'm confused about is where the throttle cable enters the firewall. There is a plastic "guide" that the throttle cable goes through that seems to be clipped into the firewall from the inside behind the dash. This is the plastic sleeve that the cable fits in.

Best way I can describe it is if you follow your throttle cable up to the firewall where it enters by the cruise control module, you'll see a plastic guide. Thats the part that I'm having trouble with, the piece that sticks into the firewall.
