Hi all,i already tried the search function and didn't get any matches

Anyways i was looking in my Haynes manual and it says to put a wrench/ ratchet on the tensioner bolt and turn it clock wise.Well i don't know about the 2.2s but my 2.4 if you push down you will just tighten the tensioner/ belt unless they ment clockwise

also i also thought you need'ed that special serpentine belt tool if you were to change the fan belt.

really im just trying to get answers on how you change a fan belt on a 2.4 and do i need that special tool

kyle

You don't need the special tool. Just gotta turn the tensioner nut in the direction that you want to loosen it. Right for the front of the car, left for the rear. So depending on which side the serp belt travels around the tensioner pulley, it needs to be loosened the opposite direction.

That's about as descriptive I can get w/out looking at a 2.4 engine to know for sure.

turn the pulley away from the belt, im pretty sure thats towards the back of the engine bay.

Turn the wrench counter clockwise. It's easier to get someone to help you, but if you do it by yourself, get the belt routed right, on everything but the alternator. Then turn your tensioner as much as you can (I can get about a 2/3 turn in there, start the wrench as far towards your front bumper as you can then push it toward the rear of the car as far as you can, then slide the belt the rest of the way on to the alt pulley. The more you do it the easier it gets. I can do it by myself in about 3 mins now.

our cars have automatic tensioners, so you dont have to worry about tightening it to anything specific

Also, it's called and accessory belt or a serpentine belt... not a fan belt.

Just put a 15mm box wrench on it, and push it back towards the engine. It'll loosen the belt, and you should be able to slip it off the tensioner.

Getting a new belt on there is ALWAYS a pain in the ass. Be prepared for a fight.

hey if you still have not solved your problem take out the front passanger side innerskirt you can put on the belt easier from there.... you will need a # 10 socket and a clip remover, if you dont have one of those a flat screwdrive to take out the innerskirt.

maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow....... but some day
