Time for a flush....Have you flushed lately???
Tuesday, September 27, 2005 7:21 AM
I had a question for any of the J-body member that own stick shift cars. I Bought an 03 LS Sport sedan in october of last year, and i was wondering what the interval, if there is one at all, in which to change the transmission fliud. I usually change the fluid in my 99 Z-24 every 15,000 miles, but since my 03 is newer and has less miles
(27,000 miles) I was wondering when a good time to change it would be, and at what intervals. Thanks in advance.

I don't think there is an actual interval for man. transissions. I changed my man. trans. fluid at 30,000, and will contunue to every 30k.

If you can find it replace fluid with B&M Trickshift (ATF). Atf is what goes in the getrag in case you were thinking it was a mistype. I used Mobil 1 synthetic ATF. All stores in my area were out of the B&M.

Yeah, good question. I have a '99 Z24 that has 90,000 miles on it, and as far as I know, the tranny fluid in my manual transmission has never been changed. Just to confirm what you Xian said....You use ATF fluid in a manual transmission?? And if so, where do you drain it from and how much does it take to refill? Thanks!

I was wondering that also, if he really did say to use ATF. I know that they use a pump to take in and pump out the fluid at the same time. So once the old fliud is going out, the new fluid is going in.

On the bottom of the tranny; on the driver's side; right below the axle. There's a bolt on the wall of the transimssion that faces towards the driver's wheel. That is the drain plug. There should be a red cap on top the transmission that is the fill hole.

It takes 1.8 quarts, but i just filled it with 2 full quarts. There's a thread about the getrag "noise" it said something about overfilling it with 2 quarts I think it was.

Here's the post about the noise thing.
