The 97 Sunfire Post is actually my car. I'm taking it to the mechanic tomorrow morning for the millionth time and don't want to get screwed for something that might not be the problem. After it rains the engine wont start properly and the whole car shakes. I've just stopped driving it when it gets like that.
If anyone has any isight it would be greatly appreciated!!
Its hard to diagnose without seeing the problem. Have autozone or a local shop check the computer for codes. Just from what you say, I would suspect an electrical issue. Look for wires with scratches or damage to the insulation. Maybe carefully blow some compressed air around the spark plugs and into any electrical connections that might have collected some water. Also the factory 6mm spark plug wires on the 2.2 ohv are notoriously crap. My car started randomly misfiring due to thin spark plug wire insulation around 25000 miles. I got some nice 8.5mm Magnecor wires never happened again. If the spark wires are the problem you should be able to see char marks on them where the voltage arced between the wires. Good luck.
As the igniton leads have been changed-(more than once)
I would suspect the ignition coil(s) or the ignition module they attach to.
The moisture is providing a nice path for the high voltage to track away and take the path of least resistance-when it's dry it's not affected.
I would expect a coil change or even the module depending on what has toasted!

Definately...
My experience has been that when a vehicle has problem running when its wet outside- usually means the distributor is cracked or broken.
I believe the 2.2 is a distributorless system, so I would check the coils...
Thanks for all the suggestions, gonna tell the mechanic and see what they find!! Hopefully I wont have to worry next time it rains
