My AC Pulley is making some noise that sounds like a chain rattling. When I turn on my AC the rattle goes away.
So my questions are. Do I need to replace the entire pulley? How hard is to to replace?
Thanks,
Ryan
I'm not sure it's the pulley. I think it's the compressor itself. The clutch slipping on the AC compressor. Mine does the same thing.

You need to replace the compressor. Plan and simple. Mine was making that noise till I removed it.

Ok Thanks, any idea who much it would cost to change out the compressor????
Thanks,

I think you can change the pulley only. By changing the compressor you will have to refill your system with refrigerant and that can cost extra $$$$. I don't know if you can remove the pulley while the comp. is in the car or not. The ones I've fixed I changed the whole compressor. None of them had refrigerant in it though.

The problem is the bearing inside the compessor has gone bad. You will need to replace the whole compressor. DRAIN THE 134a FIRST BEFORE YOU REMOVE THE COMPRESSOR!!!
