Ok...I have a 2003 Cavalier 2.2 Ecotec and tonight all of a sudden while driving,
I notice the "Check Gages" light come on..I was like "wtf is up with that...", saying
it to myself in the car...then I notice the Gas Gage start to go lower and lower and
it almost went down near the "E" mark but then the Gas Gage went back up and
the "Check Gages" light went off....and I was good for like 5 mins ..then it did it
again right before pulling into my driveway...and now no light is on...wtf!! Someone
please help me...I know someone knows the problem...
That light is telling you that you have a very short period of time before you run out of fuel. Put some gas in your tank.

thats weird my 2.2 daily driver did that but i was like coasting on fumes to the gas station lol

Holy macarol lol .....But like I said above...the problem is not that I have no gas.....I know I have gas in there but it just made me scared tonight and pissed off a lil ...
you may have a loose connection on the sending unit making it briefly show higher resistance than there really is..... making the car think there is less gas than there is. To the guy that coasted on fumes, you gas has a special oil inside of it that the fuel pump uses as a lubricant. When you get that low, it has no lubricant and gets very hot. That drasticly shortens the life of your pump. I try not to ever go less than a quarter tank.

ok bro...I have the same year motor as you, so this is what my manual says:
Manual wrote:Check Gages: This light will come on briefly when you are starting the engine. If it comes on and stays on while you are driving, check your various gages to see if they are in the warning zones or if you are low on fuel.
See Engine Coolant Temperature Gage on page 3-28 and Fuel Gage on page 3-34.
and this is what the manual says about the coolant:
Quote:
Low Coolant Warning Light: If this light comes on and stays on, the coolant level in your vehicle is low. If the light is on along with an overheat warning, you may have a serious overheating problem.
See Engine Coolant Temperature Gage on page 3-28.
and it goes on about your Temperature Gage which you already know what it does and the warning signs.
What it sounds like to me is either:
1. You're low on fuel
2. You're low on coolant
3. If you're low on coolant and your coolant light didn't come on, there is a problem with that "Low Coolant" light.
4. There is an issue with your "Check Gages" light.
Hope this helps...

My brake fluid reservoir was low but all the others were to the line..? And I also
retightened my gas cap ....
i love how they spelled gauges.... LOL when i first seen "check gages" i was like.... mmmm WTF they mis spelled it... LOL cracks me up every time i see it....
the sending unit in your fuel tank is most likely going bad
the 00-05 cars are know for them going bad
my 00 did it tell i replaced the sending unit
The 04 is acting stupid. Half tank of gas, the gauge reads no gas at all. But if you are luck and restart the car a couple times it "fixes" it self.
I dunno, the retards that put my car back together could have messed something up too.
