"pop" noise in front suspension, squeaky dash
Wednesday, September 07, 2005 8:12 PM
I think I've read where a "pop" noise in the front suspension is commonplace in Sunfires. It only happens when I'm coasting in neutral at under 5mph or so... whether at a red light or in the driveway. I'm not sure if it's suspension or the CV joint. Sounds like it's coming from the left wheel.

Also I was wondering if anyone knew how to keep the dashboard from being so squeaky.. damn cheap interior.

I love my Sunfire though, don't get me wrong.

the only time I have had a pop from the suspension was when a strut mount needed to be replaced. if it were happening when you turned or all the time I would look to other things.
drive around with out the radio on for awhile and see if it does it at another time as well.

look for posts with dash noise and motor mounts, allot of people get an undesirable squeak from the dash after putting in the mounts due to the vibes they cause. I tightened up the bolts that go around the dash and it cured about 90% of the noise.

I searched for front end suspension noise, I came up with this, and one other. They both only mention front end "pops", or "crackles". Mine is squeaking, (over bumps etc). Is this also symptomatic of a bad susp. mount? Or motor mount? How can I tell a difference?

I'm a 6ft. tall, 250+ lb., man, and I proudly drive the Sunfire. My wife drives the half-ton 4x4...

the squeking is usually an easy fix, the strut mount rubber is worn or dry try putting some grease on the top of the mounts, some people go against that, but i find it works great
