car is burning clutch fluid & 2.4 into a 2.2?

i got 2 questions for you guys:

first, my friend has a '98 base model cavalier, manual with a 2.2 (obviously). anyways, he just rebuilt the tranny, flushed it, replaced all the internals because it was grinding and burning clutch fluid.

well now, after 1200$ in labor, it runs great but still burns out all his clutch fluid in very little time. wondering what it could be?

he said he doesnt have a leak....so?

question 2: will a 2.4 z24 engine swap cleanly into a 2.2 base model like his? if not, how hard is it? is there any welding of any mounts that is involved?

thanks guys.

I'm no expert but i cannot see how you can burn clutch fluid. Seems impossible to me. Only way it can come close to burning is by leaking onto the clutch. If he's losing fluid then the actuator is leaking and the tranny needs to be pulled out to replace it. And to swap a 2.4 in you need to change the wiring harness. Pretty big job and not worth it in my eyes. A guy i know is swapping a 3.1 from a 2.2 and he had to change the whole dash along with the harness.

you need a lot of stuff to swap in a 2.4. its an easy swap if you know what your doing but if you get all the extra parts it makes it even eaiser. search in the third gen forum. someone posted everything you need for the swap. as far as i know, everythin' mounts right up
