ok im having a bit of a problem. for starters today when i went to work on my 96z, it's been sitting for a while. but i took off the valve cover to change out the spark plugs and as i was pulling them out,all 4 of them had an ass of oil on them??? also the plastic boots that the spark plugs seat in were worn, and actually pieces of the plactic boot were down in the hole where the spark plug goes? but before all this a while back i was driving my car and all of a sudden it just started bogging, i was driving and it started spuddering like it was out of gas, eventhough it wasnt, i replaced the fuel filter, but it's still acting the same way.its been sitting since then. any ideas on any of the problems? right after i pulled all the spark plugs i put all my tools up and hopped in my civic and halled ass to my house to check out my chilton manual and look on here for some help. if you have any insight or ideas/opinions please help, i'm trying to get my cavi running as soon as possible. also the ignition control module(icm) the white piece thats right underneath/attached to the valve cover, can this piece be replaced? how would i know if it's bad?
thanks in advance.
ummm i think its pretty bad if somethin' falls down in there
also i dont really want to jump to piston rings, because the last time my car was actually running right, it wasnt burning oil, and there was no kind of smoke at all out of my exhaust, it ran perfect. it just all of a sudden started bogging? but all the oil is external ant it's all over the side of the valve cover also, and all over my oil pan, prob need a new gasket for that, but see above and please help
Do the following:
Basic tune up: Plugs, air filter, oil filter, oil and throttle body cleaning.
I would do a injector cleaning too, but some will say this is not necessary.
Then scan for codes and see if any codes are set (hard or soft)
go from there.
look deep under the car, and there should be a switch on the lower firewall on the passenger side, the switch reads "broken" and "fixed". it's probably flipped to broken, very common on these cars, then flip it to fixed, should run good as new.
How big are the pieces of the "plastic boot" that fell into your combustion chamber?
I would start w/ a compression test. Easy enough to do yourself.
I doubt that your igniton module is bad (IMO)
check the head gasket as well. Sounds like A LOT of oil is getting into the cylinders, if your plugs are coated with the stuff.
replace the head gasket and do a full tune-up would be my reccomendation.

dont really need to much sarcasm mike, but thanks for all the help guys,im gonna do it as soon as i get off of work today, but the piecies of the boot weren't to big, but it's just the plastic is peeling off, can i replace theese, where can i get them from, how much? oh and also my car was running very rich before any ideas why? smelled like gas was getting in my oil??
you can get those boots for $20 at autozone with a lifetime guarentee, i just had to buy some about a month ago. i had a similiar problem with mine also, parts of the plastic boot broke off and were laying right next to the plug. i took a long zip tie and put a dap of super glue on the end and then put that end down where the plastic was. i let it sit there for a little while, 30 seconds, and then was able to pull the pieces of plastic out of the way from the spark plug hole.

thanks on your car domain page you said your car was running rich, mine is also running very rich, i can smell the gas coming from my exhaust, it's also bogging that could be caused by an o2 sensor rite, what else would cause your car to run rich? and spudder?
