Assuming that you have a 4 speed (4T40-E) like mine, you don't have to check it. The fluid is fill for life and it will go down when there is a problem.

^ Exactly.. sealed system, no dipstick. Of course, you have no way of knowing IF there IS a problem, since you can't see if it's going down.

Checking it is a pain in the arse... there's a check screw on top of the passenger side axle. I believe it's 11mm. You have to check it with the car on level ground, while running. So.. best done by a shop.

But really... unless you have a leak... or are gong to be changing the fluid sooner than the recommended 60k or 100k miles interval... don't worry about it.

There's a red cap on top of the transmission case. Hard to see, it's stuffed under a bunch of wires. Equally hard to get to... you'll need one of those long-necked funnels.

Maybe I'm missing something... is there something wrong with your transmission? Or are you thinking preventative maintenance?

If it's the latter, there isn't much you need to do. Unless something is wrong, the fluid level shouldn't change, and therefore doesn't need "topping up"

I'm just thinking of preventative maintenance so when a problem occurs, I know where to go and fix it. My dad and my boyfriend were trying to find it but had no success what so ever. Thanks for the help tho!

i heard from another member on the board to change it @ least every 5 years or that 100k mile interval...

same w/ the dexcool antifreeze...and the supposedly double-tipped sparkplugs (u don't want them seized to the block; i'd take them out, check gap, if good, clean threads & put some ainti-seize on them, reinstall & torque to ~13 ft-lbs.)

you can check your fluid. its a lot to type but if you want to do prevented maintenance and fix your car you should go on alldatadiy.com and pay 14.95 for one year and you can have all the info to fix your car and all the recalls you can get done for free and so much more. i am not trying to sell this but i got it for my car and i check all the info that the people type to other people and find a lot of stuff wrong because people think they know what they are talking about. but to answer your ? you can check your trany fluid. you just have to read the three page instructions to do it. have fun.

Yea I was wondering the same thing!!! My 00 Z24 just rolled 70,000 & I was going to get the transmission flushed & new fluid put in it. I am going to take it to the dealer & have them do it!
