Starter won't crank
Thursday, July 14, 2005 1:01 PM
The other day I whent to start the car and it cranked for half a second and then nothing. I still have power to everything else but the starter won't turn. I pulled the starter and had it tested and it is fine. I also tried jumping the car first and got nothing. These are the things I am thinking it could be:
My clutch master cylinder is leaking internaly, but still works if I pump it up = Is there a switch in there that could gone bad and is keeping power from going to the starter?
Maybe a bad connection somewhere?
Or possibly the Ignition switch is bad?
Oh, and I've got a bad oil leak, could this have contaminated something?
Any help would be much appreciated. Even though it is in kind of dissrepair it is my only mode of transportation and I just need to get it back on the road or I'm screwed.

Please HELP!!!

And that would keep power from going to the starter?

Have someone turn the key like they are trying to start the engine . Check the voltage on the purple wire on the solenoid , you should have 12 volts on that when they turn the ignition over to start . If no voltage is there then you may have a lose connection or a broken connection between the solenoid and the ignition switch .

You can also check to see if the starter will turn the engine over by jumping the terminals on the solenoid . Take a screw driver and place it on the terminal for your battery and alternator . Then touch the terminal that the purple wire is connected to . The solenoid should kick in and the starter should turn over . If it does'nt then you need to replace the starter or get it rebuilt .

I had a problem with my starter in which I busted the end off of the solenoid . I sent it out to be rebuild and the solenoid ran about $35.00 to have replaced . They even check the starter afterwards .

ive actually been fighting the same problem in my '99 XZ24. i started experiencing problems after changing my clutch master cylinder. i replaced the starter, and the clutch position sensor . . . and it still didnt work. i ended up wiring in an ignition start switch (provides power straight to the starter, and by passes the ignition) and ive been starting my car that way for over a year now. still cant get it to start with the key . . . im assuming my problem lies in the ignition itself. If you ever figure your prolem out, please post the solution! thanx.
