My g/f has a leased 2003 sunfire. WE are trying to find out if she must get her oil changed by a shop only. She wants to change it herself and keep records of it to save a few bucks.
Anyone know if on a leased car what's allowed or not?
she was wondering if when she goes to give back teh car if they will ask for the service records, and if she was doing her own oil changes will she get burned?

I believe that there is a law of some sort that prohibits dealerships from doing this.

call teh dealership...worst hey can say is no
We leased a malibu and i did all the oil changes. They never said anything. As far as i know they don't ask for it unless you give the car back with a problem. If there is a serious problem you need to let them know before you give it back.

My dad did all of the oil changes on the leased cars they've had. Just document it in the owners manual the dates and mileage of the changes. If yer REAL paranoid about it save the receipts too from buying the oil and filters.
Yea my mom & brother both leased cars, the dealership never did any of the oil changes!! In fact, my mom leased a 2000 Buick Regal GS w/ the supercharged 3.8 & she drove about 150 miles a day, the first oil change wasn't done till 8,000 miles!!! Then she changed it about every 8,000 after that also! She waited for the oil life monitor to get down to 0% then she got it changed. The dealer never said anything though.
