Evap bypass P0440

I searched and couldn't find the answer to this I need to just by pass the system so that the check engine light won't come on. When the light first came on we brought back to where we bought it and they said they fixed it and that the light wouldn't come back on. well a month later it did and I figured out that there "fix" was removing and probably all the hoses because the cans not there and I can't find the hoses to replace the can. The reason I need to fix this is because I am looking at selling the car. Any help would be apreciated.

Thanks

Adam

put a new gas cap on it, my z24 had the same code and put a new gas cap fixed the problem, but when you put a new one on it, have the codes erased, and fixed.

you can't bypass the emissions. Are you sure the can is missing? It sould be in the front right side of the bumper by the pcm.

I tried the new gas cap and it didn't work. And I am 100% positive that the can is not under the passenger side fender. Is there some way to fool the system into thinking its there?

Thanks
Adam

the evap can is next to the fuel tank on the 99 up cars

the most usual cause for that code ive see is either the gas cap being left off , or a NON-GM cap , or the seal for the fuel tank sending unit rolled over and is not sealing

Sorry I thought it was under the fender on all the cavaliers. As soon as I looked under the back end of the car I could see the broken wires hanging. I am going to replace those and then hopefully no more check engine lights.

Thanks for all the help

Adam
