Water in the back floor pan problem need some help
Thursday, July 21, 2005 10:30 PM
2 door 2000 Sunfire SE 5speed with sunroof.
I keep noticing a puddle of water in my passenger side back seat floorpan and I need some suggestions as to where to look. It rained hard today and I suspected my sunroof, but when I opened it all the way up, the area emmediately to the passenger side of the opening (between the roof and the liner) was bone dry. Is there a drainage tube or something in there that I need to make sure is clean?
Places that are wet inside the car after a hard rain:
The passenger side front edge of the back seat, about 3 inches from the side panel
Passenger side floor pan is soaked heavily
The part of the passenger side seat belt that is inside the side plastic
A section of the passenger side head liner from the rear edge of the door forward, and as far up into the head liner as i can reach my hand.

There are no puddes or water on the plastic directly undernieth the passenger quarter glass.

I may just have to sit in the car with a flashlight when it rains real hard...
thanks

Safest way to test this would be to sit in your car and have a friend drench it with a hose. Check door seals primarily, but keep an eye on the sunroof.

had this problem in an old escort i used to have, the pass. side rear wheelwell rusted through. got in one morning and thought someone spilled a coke in the back and it froze overnight. well melted it down and viola muddy water, what fun.

can't tell where you're from and if they use salt there but might be worth checking under the carpet and along the back for advanced cases of cancer.
