03 Cavalier overheating,P113 code,AC / weird idle

First off i want to say HI to everyone, im new to jbo.

Ok, i have an out of warenty manual 03 cavalier with a catback exhaust (si-do), and while driving my car it overheats prematurely, and if i keep driving the vehicle then later on my check engine like comes on. Went to auto zone and checked the code, and i get a P0113 code, which states "Intake Air Temperature Circuit High Input".

Also when i turn my AC on and i try to accelerate it loses a lot of power, like it sputters. then when i come to a stop it has a really low idle and acts like its about to stall, then it will idle high, then low, then high, etc. the rpms jump up and down from 750-1500 rpm and sometimes it does stall. and it only happens when the AC is on. it is very noticable with an exhaust too, u can really hear the rpms going up and down at a stop light.

Is there a chance all of these problems are connected? I have heard on other sites that other cavaliers have the same issues. I am up for any sugestions, and im sure many others would love to have a solution too. Thanks

Okay if its throwing that code one of a few things is wrong. the plug to the IAT sensor has gone bad and is causing it to have a high input code. similar thing happened to my coolant temp sensor. Also the sensor itself could have gone bad. Also is the sensor in the intake?
Also with the a/c it sounds like it is turning on and off. meaning either its low on R134A refridgerent or its doing that because of the IAT sensor. My IAT sensor took a crap on me and it shut the a/c off automatically.

The overheating issue. how hot is it getting. If its around the 195 line on the gauge it isn't overheating. A normal engine runs in that range. Also see if your coolant is low. Check the most obvious things first.

Might be the ECM, there is a recall for idle, and stalling problems.
You might want to take it to the nearest dealer, just to check if your VIN is effected.
They just re-flash the ECM, does not take long.
The warranty should not matter, but due to the fact of aftermarket parts, you never know.
Best of luck.

Oh, and with the A/C on, it feels like my car is running on 3 cylinders, major power robber, but IMO, normal.

Hey paul, honestly i have no idea. but there is a IAT sensor, on my intake piping. and my wires were lose, and in time i am going to replace the sensor with a better one with thicker wiring. here is a pic of the sensor wiring and where it connects on my ecotec intake piping.

hope this might help, but like i said i have an 03, with an ecotec 2.2L

with the idle issue wiht the ac on there is a recall to get the computer reflashed at the dealer... give them the last 8 of your vin and they will see if ther is a esb on it... if there is you can get the reflash for free.. my 02 ecotec did this and now its working fine... the iat sensor problem... just put a new connector on it mine did the same thing...
