fuel pump problem

I had this problem two years ago my fuel pump crapped out on me one day and it was expansive as hell to fix.
I drive a 2000 z24, I went to get a new fuel pump and the parts guy a GM said that the fuel pump and the sending unit were one unit sold together and it cost me 650 bucks.
Well I think its just happened again my car died dropping my lady off at home and it just wont start, she's showing all the same signs that she did last time.
Is there a more reliable pump to put in this car, any help would be great.

You could buy an inline pump if that is the problem . Just wire it in to the factory wiring running to the factory fuel pump and unplug the bad one .

Also before you go out and buy another pump you may want to check the fuel pump . It may have went out this time . It is terminal 87A that is the output to the fuel pump also check and see if you have 12 volts on terminal 30 . If you have voltage on both with the ignition in the run postion and the fuel pump still is not working then yeah it is the fuel pump .

So where is terminal 87a and terminal 30 located, sorry but I've never had to do any electrical checking on this car before, is it the big wire harness at the back of the fuel tank.
If it is the pump what size of pump should I put on or dose it make a difference on a shock fuel system

When you pop the hood you will see a power distribution box next to the battery . On the top you will see the lay out of the relays . If you remove the plastic tab from the rivet next to the battery you can lift the power distribution box up . Be careful not to force it up in on the rear , there is a tab on the box that sits in a cut out in the strut tower . Once out you can remove the bottom cover exposing the wiring from underneath . If you remove the relay for the fuel pump there will be a small diagram on the side of it showing which terminals do what . Also on the bottom of the relay the corresponding terminals will be numbered .

Once you figure out which connectors on the box are for 87A and 30 . you can reinstall the relay and start checking for power . The side with the larger of the two wire will be from the battery or ignition feed . The grey wire will be the fuel pump wire . Use a volt meter and check for power on both terminals with the ignition on . Also you can check for power on the other terminals on the relay . With the ignition on , the relay should have 12+ volts on the coil that pulls the cotacts in on the relay . the contact side will also have 12+ volts .

A new fuel pump is only about $319.99.

I believe your car will use a Master (that's the brand) E3919. It runs $319.99 at Kragen Auto Parts and AutoZone.

Murrays discount auto has a fuel pump for 206.99$, I bought and installed it today. thats was for a 2.2 but I don't think there is a big difference in price for the 2.4 at murrays.
