Vibration After Loud Pop

My problem is a bit hard to explain, but I will do my best.

I was stopped at a light wiating for the green and everything seemed fine. When I went to take off, I heard a fairly loud pop from the passanger side wheel well, at which time the car felt like it had a flat tire of suspension issue.

I only had about half a block to get to my apt, so I kept going, but was afraid to go fast because the car was shaking and vibrating as I tried to increase speed. It sounded like I ran over something and it rattled in the wheel well, but the rode was clear and smooth.

I am really stumped. I briefly looked everything over and noticed nothing that simply jumped out and said I am broke. The car does need new brakes and probably rotors pretty bad, because it shakes while braking, but could that be causing this when I am off the brakes?

Please help! I have noticed the car feels a little uneasy or wavering while driving recently, but I though it may just be me. I am afraid to drive the car now because of this problem, as it feels like anything over 20mph is not working.

In neutral I can rev the engine and it feels just fine. I also noticed the transmission feels a little rough when shifting from park to drive recently. Sometimes when I would put the car into park, I could feel a grinding sensation and noise through the shifter, but if I creeped forward a bit and then parked again, it would go away.

The car info is detailed below:

1997 Sunfire Coupe
2.2 Engine
Automatic
67,000 miles

1997 Pontiac Sunfire

IT can be a number of things. First thing i woudl check is the passenger halfshaft. Ive had a few military hummers break the cv joints inside the halfshaft and cause large vibration issues and would pop on take off. Id check the halfshaft first then check the strut mount and the strut itself. Also check the lower ball joint and tie rod end. Could be also that the splines on the halfshaft and hub got chewed up some how, unlikely but ive seen some pretty strange stuff happen as a mechanic.

Some of the other things to check would be the motor mounts, flex pipe on the exhaust, and also check to see if the rim on that side has weights on it.

It can be a number of things but what i listed is what popped into my head.

It was a broken motor mount bolt that caused the engine to sit misaligned! Whew!

Im thinking the reason for all the broken motor mounts is age. Normal wear and tear i think. I had to replace my lower mount at 100k. damn thing was chewed up like no other. Just age along with wear and tear. Remember its only rubber from what i know. rubber deteriorates so thats alot fo the reason
