ok so i'm on my way home from work tonight, come to a redlight and i downshift like normal come to a stop with the clutch in and in first gear (its a short light) when all of a sudden the tach revs up to 3k+ !!!! i'm like WTF?!?! so the light turns green and i immediately pull up about 50 feet into a lot and it does it again as i come in to stop in the lot. i get out, pop the hood, shut the car off, everything looks fine...so i start it, give it a bit of a rev with the clutch engaged and everything is fine. is this just a fluke thing or should i look more into it? keep in mind it had been raining all day, would that have had something to do with it?

stuck throttle cable? cruise control going nutty? tb getting stuck open? beats me... try those for starters though.
i thought about the cable...no cruise for me...and the tb would just give me a reason to get a new, bigger one lol
thanks for the input

I have a 04 cav, sometimes in the morning when I start the car it jumps up to 3500 stayes then drops. When I come to light sometimes it idles at 1100. I have checked for air leaks fuel leaks, nothing found.Im checking around with some GM techs to see if they have any idea. I dont think it is a big deal for me but they could be different problems
mine has done it before and the guys in my service dept say it was cause i let the car
go too slow while still in gear and when i hit the clutch the rpms would jump cause the computer is trying to keep the car from stalling. seems posible but i'd just keep an eye on it if it does it alot you may want to take it to the dealer.
Semper Fi SAINT. May you rest in peace.
did you get the pcm reflash yet? mine was doing some screwy things with the throttle and idle tiill i got that done...
I have a 2000 z24. The same thing happened to me a couple times. When I was first learning to drive a manual, I would leave the clutch up right where it would catch and in 1st gear when I was stopped at the light. If I kept it there too long, the engine would start to rev all the way up when I would take off. Turning the engine off and back on always corrected it. I never understood this, but just don't keep my clutch pressed in any more. I think that what jackalope said makes good sense.
