did the steering feel alot looser before ?

check your spare tire cover and see if your car has teh FE2 suspension , cause it feels loose

and the FE0 and FE1 , kinda feel tighter

thats kinda the easiest way i can put it

about a year ago my '02 had a weird noise. checked the PS fluid level was low. Filled
and checked a few days later when noise returned and it was low again.

dealer replaced steering gear that was leaking...problem solved.

now a year later fluid levels are low again but no noise....

I'm now out of warrenty and hope i dont have the same problem....
