Brake light problems!!!
Sunday, July 03, 2005 2:16 PM
My parents 2000 Cavalier sedan at my house is having brake light problems, whenever you touch the brake, none of the lights light up, but if you have your lights on they are on too, but wont get brighter if you need to use the brakes, also the turn signals work in the back, but either way, when you use the brakes no lights light up. Could this be the harnesses? Wiring? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in Advance.

Could be the switch which is located at the brake pedal is either 1 not working or 2 not touching the brake pedal braket (metal) so when the brake is applied it pushes the plastic pin in to cause the brake lights to work. This part is seen easily by laying down in the floor board and look up toward the firewall at the brake pedal arm u should see a switch with a wire or wires going to a plastic switch that touches the metal arm at all times.Check this first as long as u have power going to the switch it should work unless the switch itself may be bad,in that case by a new brake light switch..
