Vandalism and Dents on the Roof
Friday, June 24, 2005 10:28 AM
Last night I had at least one person walk across my roof and dent the hell out of it. I was wondering how hard it would be to knock the dents back out. Specifically if taking the headliner piece out to get to the underside of the roof. If anyone has any information i would GREATLY appreciate it. Im not too happy about it myself.

Some dents like yours will "pop out", some need to be
"rolled out". Free estimate at an honest shop might be
the best next step.

when I get a dent a plunger is my best friend, don't use the ding king though, it doesn't work and I've seen the glue anctually peel paint off a car.

some taps with a rubber no-swing (dead blow) hammer might help, or pull with the plunger, then there's actual bodyshop tools and whatnot.

There's more than one way to skin a cat ya know

You probably have these large depressions in your roof that you won't be able to hit out with a hammer or pull with a dent puller. To get it fixed you will need to have the metal "shrunk". The is a process that involves heating the metal with a torch and hitting the cold spot adjacent to it with a hammer. It is not something I would try myself, and it probably won't be cheap. Your either going to have to live with it, or check the price out at a body shop, and pay the man.

Then again, the cavalier body metal may not even be thick enough to do this, but it is worth checking into.

Thanks everyone for the advice but it doesnt look like anything i can solve myself. Found that one of the dents put a crown in the metal. Bodyshop time.
