I have a '98 Z24 auto. I have modified the exhaust from the Header back. I have the Ceramic Pacesetter header, a new cat, and the RK Sport Dual Exhaust Cat-Back. I had the Cat-Back installed first and loved the sound of the Magnaflows. However, when I installed the header the exhaust became more raspy especially in the mid to high RPM's. The exhaust is actually a bit too loud also. Would a resonator or resonators give me a more mellow sound? If so what would be the best size resonator (s) to get? Thanks.
Although this wasn't on a Cavi, on my car I installed a header and then had a complete exhaust (2.25") from the header back to a magnaflow muffler with a magnaflow highflow cat. It was WAY to raspy. I installed glasspack and it made the exhaust sound awesome. I think after you install a resonator in it, you'll like the way it sounds.
When I did my exhaust (2.4 with Pacesetter header, magnaflow cat, and Flowmaster 40 series) it was a little too raspy. I installed a Magnaflow 4" round and 14" long round muffler/resonator (PN 10416) and it helped to mellow out the raspiness. If I were to do it again I would try to get a little longer resonator to make it a little more mellow sounding. Maybe the 18" or 22" if you have the room. The longer the resonator the more sound it will deaden. Here is the link to the round mufflers/resonators.

i have a 29" resonator on my car. I redid my exhaust. When i redid it i added a header and. The sound has not increased may be a little quiter than before the header and resonator install.

so resonators make your exhaust quiter or does it just help eliminate the popping backfirng issues with a complete exhaust. or both?

D: All of the above
It will mellow out the tone and get rid of the raspiness. It even makes the popping a little less noticable. I have the RK cat-back and hated it with no resonator. Initially I got a 14" resonator installed. Improved but not happy. Left it that way for a year or so, then finally got a 29" one installed. Soooo much better.
