I have a 2002 LS Coupe. Like the subject says my window goes down fine but when I try to put it up it only goes a couple inches every few minutes. Is the problem the button, a loose wire, or the motor?
its the window motor... mine did this just a few months ago... its a pita to change too....
Crap that's what I didn't want to hear but was expecting, thanks.
my buddy just got an 03 cavalier ls sport and his windows do the same thing, but after a while the motor will kick in and roll up the window
mine did that 4 or 5 times before it ran out of warranty, hasn't done it since warranty ran out. i think twice it was the motor and 3 times it was the button. if you're not still under warranty go to the junkyard and get it for cheaper than the dealership
GO PATS!!!
yep motor.... switch MIGHT be bad too... if you replace the motor and it's still not workin right... the switch is bad too. That's what happened in mine, had to replace both
yep ur motor is the prob my driver did it had it tested motor was goin bad i replaced it n 3 months later my pass started doin it i just try not to roll it down much cuz that was a beach to replace u couldnt pay me to do it agian
Do any of you know where to get directions to change the motor? or did you just wing it? I found one on ebay new for $25 shipped so I'm gonna do that instead of getting a used one at a junk yard.
Drop Top Paul did mine, you might want to ask him, it wasnt that much of a pain when he did it, just time consuming

When mine was replaced, i didn't go for GM. I know a bunch of people that have owned GM cars that had window problems, so replacing it with the same isn't smart. I just went to Autozone or Pep Boys and got a different one, there was no problem with fit.
And as for how hard it was, my fiance and brother worked on it together, not knowing what they were doing for the most part. They figured it out and had it apart and back together in maybe 2 hours, which isn't as bad as some folks are making it seem.
I think what helped us though was the air tools, a dremel will help you out too. For the rivets, we sawed off the heads & then drilled out the middle.
And for the record, i think the motor i got was maybe $30 or $40. The quote from the dealership was $800 with labor. It's definately worth doing it yourself!
I'm having the same problem with my rear driver's window on my 96 cavi. Is there anyway to just get the window up? I could care less if it works. I tried the switch from the other side too and no worky. Its raining! Help lol
I'm in the middle of changing mine...acutally i tried a little while ago but ran out of time so i had to throw everything back together. I got to the point where i drilled out the rivets but before i take everything apart...what can i use to replace where the rivets are...just simple bolts? thanks in advanced.
From everything I've read, and in my own experience, when the window goes down, and not up at all, it's the window switch (in MOST cases).
When the window goes down, but up super super slow, like inch by inch.. it's the motor itself.
Sorry, best of luck getting it fixed.
I know it's JUST a Cavalier, and I'm sorry if I hurt your ego.
Got a new switch for mine today. Now it goes up! Glad I didnt have to change that motor.
