Help: window motor dead, Dying in Heat!!
Tuesday, June 14, 2005 2:23 AM
I have a 99 Z24, my drivers window wouldnt open since winter, i just started it after 6 months of storage and it worked perfectly for about 10 minutes. now if i press the button, the motor only makes a clicking sound when i press up. i checked the wires with a test light and when the buttom is press down, i have a very dim light (on test light) but the up position is bright. Also i noticed that after pressing the switches the wire get VERY HOT and my cluster goes dim. i tried to jump the wires (advice from a mechanic) all it did was spark. I cleaned the entire switch with a cleaner cause it was black on the contact points inside, it didnt help. Heres the thing though, my Z24 is in Europe and i cant find parts for it here, is there ANY way to by pass that switch??????? I dont care how it looks, i just wanna open and close the window, even if i have to cross some wires to do it.

thanks

could it also be a bad switch? i'm just wondering cause when i tested the switch with the test light, the tester show a bright light when the button was pressed up, but when pressed the button for the window to go down, it was very dim!!!! i have two spare motors arriving soon, i just wanna make sure its the motor thats the problem before i take them out.

I would say the switch may also be bad. Blackened contacts and hot wires are not a good sign. You could have someone from the states, or Canada sell you a switch and then post it to you? As for bypassing it, It's more than I'd try to tackle. the way it's wired is like having two switches in one. Better to use an OEM switch.

oh well i thought my PW motor died 2 days ago, it wasnt willing to go up and i couldnt use the a/c that way... the thing is that every 15 seconds i pushed the button up and the window did move up, but only like half an inch every time, i had to wait another 10-15 seconds and it would go up again only like walf inch, at the end i closed it completely... now it works fine don't know what could have been....
