I just bought a 97 cavalier. I have one remote, but it only opens the trunk. I have read how to reprogram it and will try that tomorrow.
My real question is: Can I go on ebay and buy any GM keyless remote and use Lenko's writeup to program it.

You should be able to use any GM keyless entry keyfob should work, you can probably just use your cars instruction manual to tell you how to program it.

You need a three-button remote. The newer (4 button, has red Panic button on it) will not work. Those are for Class 2 (body control module) cars... in J's, that's 2000+
