Hey folks,
Did some searching on this, but didn't find anything. I just bought a 2000 Cavalier Z24 with power windows, and the windows appear to be pretty scratched (vertical scratches). I previously owned a Grand AM, and there was a known problem with the power windows where something inside would cause window scratches. I mentioned this to our local Chevy dealer, and they hadn't hear of anything like this. However, since it's all GM, I was skeptical. He suggested I try cleaning inside the track using a screw driver wrapped in cloth that has been soaked in a cleaner. He thought there was dirt buildup inside causing the scratches.
Just wanted to check if anyone's had a similar experience with their windows. Any known issues? Recommended cleaning approach?
Thanks for any help,
Matt
I have window scratches on 98 Chevy. I was told by an autoglass shop and they said that sometimes the scratches come from the rubber lining on the door. The lining is felt or some material like that and over time it can become brittle and abrasive. Hence depends where it is the worst or where there is more pressure on the glass surface it is where u get the scratches. On my truck, it is on the outside. There is nothing u can do about it. U cant even polish the glass, i was told u have to replace the window and that weather stripping.
