my coolant has been leaking (2.2) its on the i can see it drip off the car but cant figure out from where. its a very slow but consistant drip, ive tired putting pressure through the coolant system but nothing was coming out with that.

also my car has been running a lil warmer then usual so im guessing that is a result

anyone have ideas what could be leaking like maybe the water pump

Hi Michael

a tip I have used is to get the system warm (Take care you don't get splashed--wear Safety Glasses).

Stop the engine and rapidly squeeze the top hose, ---gloves, it should be hot.
This procedure should show up any pinhole leaks in hoses etc.

If it is the water pump it should be appearing at the drain hole, normally underneath, roughly betwen the pulley and the main body of the pump.

Hope this helps a little

The lower hose connection of my radiator developed a crack somehow and was leaking from there. A '96 2.2, I couldn't see where it was leaking from either. New radiator fixed it up good. Although, now I have to deal with another leak. Head gasket leaking slowly nearest stock battery position. Got plans to pull the head and put a new one on AS WELL AS turn a slotted stud so the slot faces away from (not towards!!! stupid GM!!) the water jacket.

does it leak when cold or hot?
Mine used to leak overnight slowly, it was the lower Rad Hose....could be water pump...both of those leak down to same spot (passenger side front)so its tough to find.
how many Miles on the car? if its always leaking, it could be the Head leaking

alright this is what you do. park the car over night. put cardboard or something under the car. see where it on the board and look straight up. if its coming from the passenger side of the engine (which is probably where it is) there is a little hole under the water pump behind the tire. if its coming from there (weep hole) that means your water pump is going and you need a new one. i got one at pep boys, it was like 30 bucks

I've got a similar situation on my 96 2.2 L, as far as a fairly heavy leak coming from the passenger side above the AC compressor near the water pump. I replaced the pump mounting gasket and didn't solve anything. I firgured the pump was still good seeing as there was no fluid coming out of what I assumed to be the weep hole. The hole I'm looking at though it on the top and not "under the pump, behind the tire" as was described earlier. Am I looking at the wrong hole and if not what else could be leaking in that area, the only other thing I can think of is a craked block.

Pressure test it. If your cap is rated for 15lb/sq in. add about 17, or alittle more then the rating. Spray your hoses and where they connect w. soapy water--NOT Windex--and it will show the leak, if you spray that part. The water will start to bubble alittle, you might hear a hissing noise. Check hoses--where they connect to other parts--and the termostat housing. That should help--actually, spray the side where the leak is coming from, and all around it, it may be dripping off something else. Good Luck!
