If you need it, here's the detail to change the switch -- Removing the steering wheel is optional.
-----
Courtesy of Chilton Manual (1995-2000 Cavalier/Sunfire):
Remove the steering wheel using the following steps:
1. Properly disable the SIR system. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Wait approximately 20 minutes to allow time for the auxiliary system to discharge.
2. Remove the 2 screws from the back of the steering wheel that retain the air bag module. Disconnect the module CPA and electrical connection from the rear of the module and remove. Set the module aside.
3. Remove the steering wheel center nut.
4. Use a suitable steering wheel puller and remove the steering wheel from the column.
Safety Alert -- When carrying a live air bag, make sure the bag and trim cover are facing away from the body. In the unlikely event of an accidental deployment, the air bag will then deploy with minimal chance of injury. when placing a live air bag on a bench or other surface, always face the bag and trim cover up, away from the surface. This will reduce the motion of the module if it is accidentally deployed.
To reinstall steering wheel:
1. Align the mark on the steering wheel with the mark on the shaft, then install the wheel. Install the center nut and torque to 30 ft lbs.
2. Install the air bag module using care when making the horn and air bag connections.
3. Properly enable the air bag system.
4. Connect the negative battery cable.
Note: Removal of the steering wheel may not be necessary, however, it may prove useful as it eliminates one more thing in your way.
To access the Combo Switch:
1. Remove the upper steering column cover. There should be 3 retainer screws in the lower cover.
2. Remove the column tilt arm (it should just unscrew).
3. Remove the lower steering column cover.
4. Remove the 2 switch mounting screws and remove the switch
5. Detach all wire connectors from the combo switch. Push locking tabs to remove the wires.
To install:
1. Attach all wire connectors to the combo switch.
2. Install the combo switch to the column with the 2 attaching screws.
3. Install the lower steering column cover and tilt arm.
4. Install the upper steering column cover and attaching screws.
5. Reinstall steering wheel per above instructions.
6. Reattach negative battery cable.
you DO NOT have to remove the wheel, its definately not worth the hassle, just remove the covers, take out the 2 screws (6mm) and unplug the wiring, and thats it, 2 min job, no need of taking apart you airbag and removing your wheel
