Now I remember "back in the good ol' days" where recal'ing a speedo took nothing more than changing the drive/driven speedo gear. Now, is it possible to recal the speedo on a 97 Sunfire 2.2?
Thing's reading about 5% fast. Would it be as simple as taking a trip to the local Pontiac dealer and having them reflash the computer with a corrected pulse/mile figure?

I've owned j-bodies for about 6 years now. 2 Cavi's, a Cimmaron and now a Sunfire...
First 3 were all cable driven speedo's, this one with the VSS is a little outta my league...
more than likely the gears are broke, but what i would do is pull the needles off and reset them to where they should be with the car off. If im not mistaken, the tach is the only one that resets itself.

The speedo sits where it's supposed to when off, just when driving, it's reading at 47-48 at 50 (actual), 56-57 at 60 (actual), 65-66 at 70 (acutal)...
all speedo's are a bit off thats the nature of the beast, bikes can be as much as 5-8% off though cars tend to be under 3% if you know the shown and real speeds why does it really matter...also how do you know those numbers arent right do you have a radar gun or are you going off trap speeds at a track or do you have a friend drive next to you at 40....point is a cop is unlikely to pull you over for 4-5mph @ 70mph. so unless you're extreamly anal just pretend your speedo is correct.
i beleive its actually legal for vehicle manufactures to be within a 10% gain/loss in speed readings, most manufactures actually bump up the speed within the 10% range so that the warranty expires faster that the actual mileage on the motor itself..it sucks but thats life
