Cooling for the Fuel Pump --

Those ' in tank ' fuel pumps require a certain level of

gasoline to stay properly cooled-down.....

The common recommendation is to keep the tank at least

one-fourth from empty.

Is it better during the hot summer months to keep more

fuel in the tank ?

I've heard the same thing but I often run my tank down to "E".

Our fuel systems are constant flow so I think that keeps them cool. Running the tank dry may be a problem though...

Just as a general rule, I try not to run my fuel level below 1/4 tank, especially in the winter time. I've never heard anything about the summer months, tho...

I know the fuel pumps use the fuel to keep them cool, but I would imagine that since they are usually in a llittle well in the bottom of the fuel tank, they should be OK until you run out of gas.

I've only ever replaced one electric fuel pump, and that was on a car that I routinely ran low on fuel. Coincidence? I don't know, but I have stopped running the car much below 1/4 tank since then...

Just make sure the fuel pump stays submerged - that

must be the correct answer - thanks for the responses.....

also keep it filled during winter, warm days and cold nights can actually cause condensation to form on the inside of the tank, this results in water sitting at the bottom of the tank (can rust out).
