Putting engine back together, how do i lube parts?
Tuesday, May 24, 2005 6:00 AM
im putting my 2.4L engine back together agian today, i cleaned the cam housing last night with varsol in my cleaning tank. It took off the oil very well, but it left the lifter canals dry and it brought out a lot of marks i didnt see before i cleaned it. i coated some oil in there, but its not staying on the walls very well, i dont want it to run dry when i start it up, is there a special way to clean it? i used water to clean off the varsol when it came out of the tank. Also, what is that stuff that is used to coat the cams? its like a lube that you coat them with when you install them again. And can you please tell me where i'm suppost to coat it and where its not allowed, i know i have to coat the lube on the cams, but should i also coat the new main bearings, piston bearings, and lifter walls with the same stuff?

Try getting a tube of assembly lube for a parts store, it's a really thick white lube (possibly lithium but not sure) it sticks to the parts until oil can reach them. I believe that the factory uses this on newly assembled engines as well.

Hope this helps
