ok, so when i bought my car, i bought it knowing the window on the passenger side doesnt work. but since summer is comming up, i think i need to fix it.
basically, it goes down about an inch when you press the button, and then stops. then you have to wait 10-20 minutes to get it down or up another inch. so i can only roll it down an inch at a time, and then rolling it back up takes just as long!
does anyone know if its the motor in the door, or a short at the switch between the seats.
BTW: i have a 1996 z24 cavalier
motor or the gears in door...just pop it off and peak around...if u cant see nothing jaming...take the motor out and try it directly off ur battery (i dunno ifthis is safe but its another 12 sorce other than what its conected 2) if the motor works absolutley fine...its a short....good luck
The same thing happen to me on my drivers side door. It would go down but it wouldn't go back up. I ended up changing the motor because that was definitely going. My problem now is once its mounted on to the door it wont bring the window down but it did bring it up. if i don't attache the motor to the door and just hold it in my hand and plug it in it works both ways...
I just changed out both motors on my Sunfire, its not that hard, but drilling out the rivets can be a PITA. You most likely won't need to get the entire $180 assembly from GM, just go to your parts store, and get a replacement motor.
And a tip if you don't have a haynes/chilton manual. Drill a hole through the piece with the teeth and the motor mount and put a bolt through them. If you don't it'll come unsprung and you'll have extra fun trying to put pressure back on the spring while you try to put the screws in for the motor. You'll see what I mean when you get the assembly out.
Johanna - Did something get bent while you were changing the motor? I can't imagine why yours is doing that.

SAME thing happened to my old Sunfire. After I replaced the power window motor in the passenger side, it would go down but not up. Had to replace the switch too (switch was $90!!!)
CaliforniaCavalier> You need to replace your power window motor. Then, if you still have problems, the switch too.
No, nothing got bent.... I think I might need the switch as well. I was getting cheap looking around at the junk yards for the switch but since its an 02 I'm having a bit of a problem. With the bash coming and summer just around the corner I'm gonna just get the switch.
FALLEN... where did you get your switch?

Man this was years ago... I THINK we had to get it from GM??
