I just put a new head gasket on my cavalier, i went to fire it up today and when i turned the key to on...the power in the car just goes out and my ecu under my dash just starts buzzing. I'm not the best with electrical work, but i have a pretty basic understanding. I'm pretty sure its a short in the wire for the started. i checked all the main fuses and they all look pretty good. I'm pretty lost on what to do, so any advice on something to try would be awesome.

If it's buzzing when you try to start it that sounds like a dead battery. Or did you already check that?

You must have:-
1. Bad connection somewhere (Probably on the main battery cables)
2. discharged Battery
It's probably NOT a short otherwise you would have a bang/spark!! or just a fuse rupturing.
Can you put a voltmeter/multimeter set to Volts across the Battery terminals and check the voltage as you attempt to start the car.
If it's a discharged battery or a bad connection the voltage will drop off in both cases.
Then just try to switch the headlights ON without starting the car to see if they dim.
The post back and someone will help you.

thanks a lot alont.
I had a bad connection, i get the car to turn over now. But now obviously when you fix one problem there is another. I replaced my flywheel with a lightweight flywheel and also installed a stage 3 clutch...the engine turns over but it sounds like its binding up. We have checked just about everything that it could be other than engine internals. should i need to re-shim my starter with the new flywheel?

Did you take your starter off? I would check the connections on it.
Yeh it was off when i was doing the transmission. But i tested the connections w/ a meter and it was fine. To double check it i even un-bolted the starter and had a friend turn the ignition while i watched the starter gear spin just to make sure it was getting power.
