Check engine came on, what to do?
Friday, May 13, 2005 4:34 PM
Ok last night after work my check engine light came on. i've checked the water and oil both full. So i've been driving around and nothings happen so i'm just going to leave it as it is. I have taken it to autozone but they couldnt check it cuz my plug thing dont work so i'm kinda just driving it around not worring. Should i make an attempt to find out whats wrong or ignore the light? And how?

Well just ignoring it may cause major problems later on.

What if the code is for to lean of mixture, that pinging sound that you might hear isnt your imagination it is the engine pinging because the mixture is to lean, usually happens on acceleration.

If an O2 sensor isnt working after time it will destroy your cat.

I'D get it checked out

Make sure the gas cap is tight and not leaking.

Get the codes read.

it might also be a fuse, happened to my car. scared the crap out of me just cause it was just over a year old, good thing it was under warranty and GM replaced the fuse (fan was drawing too much power, replaced fan and fuse).

But yea, don't drive around too much defenetly get the codes read as soon as you can. (what do you mean your plug doesn't work...?!?)

-good luck

I think i found out my problem, i've had the shift plus pro shiftkit on my car for about 4 months now and i know how ya'll always said to get the stupid lil clamps replaced cuz the ones that come with the kit sucks, i think they became lose cuz the trac off light comes on to, tomorrow i'm going to go back to all wiring there and tighten up all the lose clamps that connect the wires

I'd also check your brake and power steering fluid. My check engine light triggers if the brake fluid goes a little low and then doesn't go back off for a litlte bit after that but it does go off.
