RPMs drop when idling, WHY?
Wednesday, April 27, 2005 10:14 AM
i have a 2002 4-door Z24.

i have about 93 000km on it.

when i am idling (ie stop light) my rpm drops intermittently. it's usually around 1000, but dips to 800, even 600 sometimes! i feel like my engine may go off.

anyone experience similar symptoms? i have not had a tune up yet, could it just be spark plugs?

my engine light has been on for months, a mechanic friend tested and said it might be a mis-fire, but couldn't tell for sure.

any advice would help, thx!!

Could be a few things....

Sometimes a IAC valve will cause RPMs to go up an down at idle.

More likely though it is a vacuum leak

Would this be covered under a powertrain warrenty?

could be a throttle body position sensor, or even a vaccum leak..

Aren't auto's supposed to idle round 600 rpm, unless its sputtering/skipping, it's probly normal, and you'll feel more vibes at that rpm that's normal too.
