Plug Problems
Friday, April 15, 2005 9:15 PM
this was awhile ago, but when i was changing my plugs after the charger went on, the plug on the far right side of the engine would not come out. the motor was cold, got the other three out fine, but this one would not come out. i dont know if the threads got warped or it was put in wrong or what, i just need some input on how to get it out without breaking it inside the threads. i have the 3 plugs that came with the charger kit, and one stock one. also, that is bad right? could letting the motor warm up and then trying to take it out work? or do you guys have some method to get this out without breaking it? thanks guys

sometimes you just have to go for it.if the threaded part breaks off in the head there is an easy out to take that part out, mostly all part stores carry the item.but all the plugs i've chaned only maybe a dozen has ever broken.most of the time they're just hard to turn.
but if you're so worried about turning it put alittle mystery oil on it n let it soak in.

i would do whatever it takes to get it out.. it sounds like it is cross threaded from not starting it in by hand when it was installed. once you get it out, you can get a spark plug hole tap and clean up the threads to reinstall the plug. i've done it before, i just put a $hit load of grease on the tap to catch the filings so they dont fall into the motor. good luck, and hope this helps.

Doublecross' suggestion - "put alittle mystery oil on it n let it soak in"

This is excellent advice.

Sometimes carbon on the spark plugs will bind the threads during removal.

(Not too many people have a thread tap to chase threads in the head, and this and

penetrating oil are the "ultimate" tools to combat the problem.)
