i Just started taking apart my 2.4 motor, it has 236,000 and i wanna change all the worn out parts on it before i put it back in. i checked out some websites for parts, and there is like 4 defferent bearings for my engine (.25mm .55mm .75mm etc.) how do i know which one i need, same with the vavle seals and piston bearing.
Are you talking about main bearings or rod bearings...anyways since your rebuilding your engine I imagine you have a micrometer, use that to see what size yours are.
Otherwise I dont know how else you would tell, I think its odd though that GM made the bearings .50mm difference for the same engine.

does it have to be a micrometer. can a digital caliper gauge be used?
Also i checked out some micrometers today, but i dont know which one to buy, 2-3" 3-4", etc.
since you ahve alot of mileage, I suggest you to bring the crank at a machine shop to check the crank. You will probably need to have the crank turn.

Isnt the bearing the part that wears out first? i thought only if you spin a bearing you need to have it turned.
Also i noticed some GM numbers written on the back of the Bearings, Can i use that number to buy the correct bearings (main and piston bearings)

yes, that is the part number ... as for buying the bearings .. you should just be able to go to a local automotive shop and get/order them

the crank, the bearing and even the big end of the rods will worn out and warp with mileage. Same thing has pistons rings and cylinder walls. under heat and with time, they worn out even if there's oil between and they need to be mesure to be sure everything is fine.
of course you can go and just put new bearing without checking the clearance but what's the point of changing the bearing if you don't check anything? they will worn out faster than the old one since the main are not always round because of mileage.
on the bearing it should say STD for the original bearing. if it has been change/turn, it will be .010 or more.

The clearnace between the bearing and crank is around .002-.004.
Secondly the cranck does wear out over time, it may need to be turned, hopefully it can. You need to measure it to see if it needs to be turned.

I know that but a machine shop will get better reading than a guy that don't know how to do it. And they shouldn't charge you more than 15$ witch is more than it cost for the right tool and the time you'll spend on the crank. It's worth the 15$.

Fel-Pro sells sets for the 2.4L...not sure about the 2.2L. Check their website, then go to www.rockauto.com. I have found they have some of the better prices and ship very fast.
