acceleration
Thursday, April 21, 2005 5:54 AM
I posted this about a month ago in the performance forum with no results. he is the situation: My car is having alot of hesitation when i drive normal it does fine (most of the time) but when i give it gas it jerks back and fourth like its trying to go but can't. Then after a a couple of seconds it goes. My a/f gauge says lean when i give it gas but at normal driving conditions (i'll say it again most of time) its fine. Is this a plug and wire issue or what i need some info. My check engine light is not on or anything. I have a 2.2 cav 1996.

if your going lean when giving it more throttle it maybe "running out of fuel", I would change your fuel fitler first becuase its cheap and easy to do. If that does not help bring your car to a shop that kows how to use a amp probe. While fuel pressure can be good flow can be bad and a amps probe is the best way to tell. Good luck.

I thought abot that ^^^ but its only like a second or 2 then it goes i wouldn't think it should be running out of fuel thanks for the info.

what you described is exactly what a car does when its running out of fuel. Thats my professional opinion

Mine does exactly the same thing, full tank, good pressure and flow. Personally I think its a faulty TPS. Feels like the torque convertor is locking/unlocking. Its almost like it can't decide if it should downshift, or stay in the gear its in, since it surges forward then feels like it changes gears or the tc locks up and it slows down, then repeats.

I haven't replaced the TPS yet on mine, but I think thats the issue. I'm going to replace it when I put the HO manifold on and see if that helps clear things up.

Not yet, simply because I don't have a scanner, and I haven't been able to watch my safc when it was doing it. I only say its the TPS because I think it has a "flat" spot in it at a certain acceleration point. If I let off the gas it stops doing it, or if I push down harder it stops doing it, and it seems to be only when I'm accelerating at a certain rate (eg 30% throttle).

you don't need a scanner, but a graphing meter but if you don't have a scanner you probly don't have one of those.

well i've compiled a couple of things to do i am going to change my fuel filter and tps as well as my plugs and wires. I did notice that my one plug wire first one from left to right starting at passenger side was damage. Because when i took my turbo off and changed my plugs back over i pulled the wires off and my one metal piece that fits over the plug thats inside the wire stayed on my plug wire the wire came off. I just kinda of jammed it back in so it might not be making a good connection.

I had that problem, turned out one of my spark plug boots was cracked. Easy fix.
