Door Sensor??
Wednesday, April 20, 2005 3:19 PM
Over the last few months the problem has been getting worse. A few months ago it started that when I would open the door to get out of the car the radio would not shut off and the interior light would not come on. When it started it was in the winter so I figured the plunger was freezing, and sticking, which it was. But as soon as I pulled the little plunger out the radio went off and the light came on. Lately though the plunger is popping out when I open the door but the radio isn't going off. I figure it must be the little plunger/sensor in the door jamb. I even tried putting some WD-40 on it to see if that would help at all. It didn't. It's now to the point where every time I get out of the car the radio isn't turning off. The problem isn't really with the radio, but I have a bad habit of leaving my lights on (yes I drive with them on in the day), and without the door chime I forget to turn them off. Twice I have left my lights on, so when I go to leave work at the the end of the day my car won't start.

So I guess my question is:
1. Does anybody know of something else it might be? and
2. Does anybody know to change that plunger/sensor in the door? (it doesn't seem to tell me how in my Haynes manual)
Thanks.

Happened to me too last winter. Picked up a new door switch for like 7$ at my dealer. Install was easy.. Pull out the sensor with a pair of pliers, unclip the plug, throw it away.. Clip in the new sensor and slide into the hole as far as it goes.. Now slowly close your door.. It'll make a terrible creaking sound and you'll be sure you just messed up and broke the sensor (that's what I thought anyways), but it's actually just seating the sensor into place.. And that's it. I had it changed in like 30 seconds, worked fine ever since!

Same thing happened to me too. Do exactly what lone_wolf said. Go buy a new one ($7-$10) yank the old one out, pop the new one in, away you go. Takes like 3 minutes. Don't even bother trying to fix it, when I took my old one out, it was so rusted that it was easy to see why it quit working.
