This I know is my second time posting this but It seems everybody is interested when someones window wont roll-up or there is a missing wire to there radio, this happens to be a serious question about the life of a j-body and well if that isn't important why even have this site. The problem I am having is that once my engine warms uo it seems to make a "Popping" sound every time I accelerate rapidly, like when passing or try to beat wussy imports down the road, and well have your engine pop while taking off is not the coolest thing on the block. My assumption is that its mis-firing or the timing is off but not being mechanically inclined I do not wanna make any assumptions. SO PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHAT IT COULD BE I AM WANTING TO PUT IT ON THE ROAD IN A COUPLE WEEKS AND WELL IDONT WANT IT POPPING WHEN I DO.
so heres the real question, you say your not mechanicly inclined.. then whats it matter if someone tells you whats wrong. not like your going to be able to fix it.... this site does not owe you an answer... you need to just take it to a shop, and have it looked at... and as far as for beating "wussy imports" well, is that the smartest thing to do when your car isn't running righ?probaly not... but thats on you,
I was just looking for some advie on this subject because like I said before I am not mechaniclly inclined, Like if its bad plus wires or plugs or something then thats fine. I also thought this site was for help no criticism on asking for help, it just suck that i cant put a serious problem up on here and have it answered btu someone with a question on painting ther einterior will get 8000 replies. So someone other then SIRK 798 plrease answer .
Thank You
Curtis Graham
it's your attitude dude, telling people that your problem is more important then window tint will get you about as far as telling a chick shes fat.... they don't OWE you an answer... <br>
as for your problem,,, you may try "asking nicley" and also describing it diffrently. because the way you describe it, there is no telling what the hell your talking about.... what is poping, the exhaust, the tranyn, the suspension... you gotta give a little more info...
also it hard to diagnois a noise from hundreds of miles away.

NO, I'm not done....
basical it is a waste of our time to try to diagonis a sound we will never hear, and we can't make a good guess on what that might be so if you are so worried about it have it towed to a professioanl repair shop.

well whatever i signed up here thinking that it might be some use to me but obviously i was wrong if you have dickheads like this guy answering posts what the sence of having the sight its a general problem i was looking for general possibilities of what it might be not this butt munch gettin all pissy like hes on his period or something. Thanks for nothing and I hope you dont treat all your memebers like this.
I apoligize for all the rude comments, I would liek to let you all know it sounds like it is coming form under the hood but it sounds like it ends at the exhaust tip, Again I am sorry for letting my temper get the best of me this site is one of the most loyal sites I have been on, well cause j-bodys rule but other than that I hope someone answers thsi post caue i am stumped????

okay, man, i will try to help ya. My car was doing this really really bad before i dropped a piston. Best thing i can tell ya to do is this:
a. Try turning your dist. cap to see if you are mis-firing
b. you can change the spark plug wires
c. change the spark plugs
d. check the timing(yes, you will have to take the motor out to do this but if you care enough you will)
e. if all else fails go to a mechanic
Thats what i did, i made it to (d) and realized i snapped a connecting rod and my piston dropped.

lmfao, ya, thats it, it's the distributor cap
The only car listed under your profile is an 1987 Firenza. Is this the car you are talking about?
This car may not even be fuel injected and could be carborated.
List the type of car you own, the engine size and type, fuel delivery, mileage. What is the cars history? Has it just been taking out of storage? When does the pop happen? When you are accelerating, idling, when you have pressed the accelerator and released? Give as much information as you can.
the engine is a 2.0l fuel injection with roughly 165,00kms on it I have driven it off and on for the past 4 years mainly because I am in school. I runn it regularily when im come home but doesnt really get any real driving till the summer. the popping happens once the engine is warm and when I press the accelerator right down quickly (floor it). And I know i shouldnt do this but lets be honest easier sadi then done and the sound should not happen anyways.
Thanks You
Curtis
I THINK I MAY HAVE FOUND THE PROBLEM!!!!!!!

Again Thank You
Curtis
Looks like it. The unburnt fuel was backfiring in your exhaust system.
