so lately i've noticed that when my ecotec is winding down the rpm's my car backfires, sometimes really bad, i took it to the dealership to have it looked at and they said they couldn't find anything wrong in the engine and they are blaming the exhaust. i personally know my car backfired before i put my exhaust on. could my exhaust cause it to become worse? because i know it would make the backfire louder but i dont think it would cause it, am i right? anyone who could help me at all i would appreciate it alot.

Is your mod list in your registry complete? You haven't gutted the cat and you're not running headers?
Stock engine. No changed plugs or injectors or anything?
depending on the size its possible that it is the exhaust , it is usually do to less back pressure in the exhaust

Well, I doubt he's running "headerS".
but I know what you mean Weasel. Since I replaced my broken flex pipe and stock manifold with the Pace Setter header I do notice my car backfires a bit at high rpm when I get out of the throttle.
Sig removed because some people cry too much.

Both of my cars have had popping when under deceleration, I think they're right buddy.
Have you cutted your cat? does it do it wors at 3000 rpms or so if so then it is your catalitic converter because it is not getting enough back pressure to the engine. i know because i have theis problem that i am fixing saturday
Fast isn't always good, looks and sound is sometimes better

Note that the sputtering and popping that a lot of cars get from a larger (perhaps poorly tuned?) exhaust is NOT backfiring.
yes my mod list is complete, what do u mean by pooorly tuned? my car has about 22,000 miles and i usually dont have the car around 3000rpms so i notice it more around 2000, but NOT below 1700 rpms

that will happen with an aftermarket exhaust.
I had the exhaust put on my camaro at a muffler shop and the guy who did it said that the car will sound like its backfiring.. he told me that will go away once the carbon and soot coats the inside to the exhaust.
It did it a lot while decelerating but now is fine.
