i had the relay done about 2 weeks agoa and havent had any issues at all. today i went out to pick up my turbo, about a 2.5 hour drive and i get tot he place, shoot the @!#$ and go to leave. now keep in mind today we got snowed on quite a bit and it rained the entire way up there. as i hop back into my car to leave, i push the clutch in, turn the key, hear the engine turn for about a second and then nothing. sme smoke came from the front of the car that i didnt think anything of. try again and not a sound. no lcicking, no whirring, nothing at all. so we pop the hood and where gm stuck the relay it smelled like burnt wire, you guys all know the smell. i popped in another relay i had that matched the one they used and nothing. both relays i can hear and feel clicking when i turn the key on and there doesnt appear to be any signal at all going to my starter. we bump started the car and were on our way. so i wannaknow if this is common with this recall? ive hear dpeople complain about it and some wont even get it done. im gonna test the wires tomorrow and hope that i can figure this out. hopefully its not snowing tomorrow or raining. worst case scenario i bring it back to the stealership tat did the recall and have them fix it. but id prefer to do this myself, even remove this stupid thing if possible

You know the two places that you used to bump the starter, well you can user just a regular button with two points on the back and send wires to the two points on your starter.
sounds goo, car goes to gm tomorrow and ill see wha tthose monkeys have to say about this.
thanks for the info bud

i have to bring this thread back from the dead. i'm having that same exact problem on my 97 2.2 and it looks like its the result of the recall. i currently have a push button wired in so i can actually start my car. for some reason when i turn the key, my starter just isn't getting any juice. went through the same thing judgez24 went through, swapped in a new relay and nothing. i'm curious as to what the dealership did to remedy this problem on your car
Sounds like the relay recall wiring has shorted out, or somehow fried itself.

thats more or less what i was thinking. i just need to figure out how to fix it. i really don't want to take it anywhere and spend a ton of money, i'm hoping that there is something i can do to fix it. i don't want to be spending any more money on this motor when i'm planning on removing it this summer.
ok ive had this problem twice now, the exact same thing becaue the guys at the gm dealer didnt water proof the unit right or whatever it is they screwed up. you need to take the relay out and get rid of their wiring. its not that hard, i cant remember the colors off hand but cut out everything and take it up execpt for the wire that goes to the starter. basically if you look at your starter youl lsee a wire coming from it into the relay and thenback out of another prong in the relay, splice those 2 wire together and you should be good to go. its been since like begining of smmer since ive had to fix this ubt ive had no problems with it.
biggest problem when this happens is that its for reason really hard to bump start the car and takes 3 or 4 people at full steam to et the car to fire.
anyways hope that helps, thats one recall i should have read up about and avoided
