i have a 04 sunfire and some one told me that a common problem with the ecotech engines is the timing chain breaks at about 60000 miles. is this true or was he just messing with me
thanks
Josh
I think he is probably talking about the old 2.2 OHV. I haven't heard anything majorly wrong with eco's.
Search for Mr Goodwrench. He saw a few eco with a broken chain. you can ask him

I have a 98 cav with a 2.2, bought it with 45k miles, and put about 65k miles on it and the timing chain never gave up on me
yes there are of 6 cases that I know of, some on the org. some at a local head shop. I am sure there are more. These things do happen. Most of them that broke I believe were 02's. (correct me if I am wrong)I have an 03 everything is fine here. But chances of it breaking are within Manufactures warranty. So oh well. Just think if it breaks, you have an excuse to the cyl. head Ported and polished!!

After downshifting into 3rd, and redlining, might as well find 4th and find the speed limiter....its therapeutic.
